Roya Bahrami: Founder, Composer, Santur, Vocals

"Our mission is to offer a message of unity through music," says Roya whose passion is to develop creative works of fusion in order to help build bridges between seemingly distanced cultures. In order to realize her recent album "Roya" as well as her current compositions in live settings, she has founded The Roya Ensemble. A native of Iran, she has studied Persian classical music with such masters as M.R. Lotfi, Hossein Alizadeh, and Dariush Talai. She accompanied the flamenco dancer Carmelo Greco on her 2004-2005 U. Richard 'Ricardo' Marlow: Flamenco Guitar
Winner of the 2008 Maryland Individual Artist Award, Ricardo Marlow, the most sought-after flamenco guitarist in the greater Washington-Baltimore metro area, has appeared at The Kennedy Center’s Millenium Stage, The Baltimore Museum of Art, the Kennedy Center Concert Hall for the 20th Mayor’s Art’s Awards.  He graduated from the James Madison School of Music and subsequently followed his passion in specializing in the flamenco guitar.  Mr. Marlow has mastered his art under the tutelage of the master flamenco guitarist Gerardo Nuñez in Sanlucar de Barrameda, Spain.  For more information visit Ricardo's website.

Denis Malloy: Clarinet, Bass Clarinet

B.M., Clarinet, Peabody Conservatory. Mr. Malloy has performed with the Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia, AIM Orchester in Graz Austria, and The Summer Opera Orchestra in Washington. D.C. In addition to his classical performing experience Mr. Malloy also records and performs with his Jazz group Tree House Quartet. He also composes records and performs with a group called Boister, with whom he has collaborated in producing original scores for four silent era films. Steve Bloom: World Percussion: daf, tombak, congas, cajon

The Washington Post wrote that “…Steve Bloom has never met a rhythm he couldn’t master. " He has achieved a command of African, Cuban, Senegalese, Nigerian studying with masters of these traditions, and Sufi drumming studying with Adnan Sarhan and Ali Analouie. Mr. Bloom has performed and/or recorded with noted artists like Tito Puente, Olatunji, Gregg Karukas, John Faddis, Dennis Cahill, bassists Andy Gonzales and Michael Manring, and flute masters John Wubbenhorst, Paul Horn and Nestor Torres. Jonathan Seligman: World Percussion: daf, bodhran, riqq, djembe
Jon Seligman has worked at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland since 1993, teaching percussion pedagogy, percussion ensemble and world music.   Mr. Seligman’s performing and recording credits include the McDaniel College Faculty Jazz Quintet, Michael Formanek’s Minor Infractions Ensemble, Jon Metzger, the Global Percussion Trio, the Lancaster, and the Towson State University Faculty Jazz Ensemble. He holds an MAT from the School for International Training in Brattleboro, VT.  In 2003, Jon Seligman was awarded a Maryland State Arts Council Grant for Jazz Composition. 


Harry Appelman: Keyboards
Harry Appelman has been chosen multiple times to participate in U.S. State Department music tours overseas: American Music Abroad program.  Mr. Appelman has toured with the Woody Herman Orchestra and the Artie Shaw Orchestra.  He was a finalist in both the 1987 and 1988 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competitions. Mr. Appelman was named in Washingtonian magazine's list of area's best jazz artists in 2003.   He holds a Master of Music degree with Distinction from the New England Conservatory.  For more information visit Harry's website.
